Apple iPhone X screen repair costs $279 without AppleCare — $110 more than it costs to repair iPhone 8 Plus’ screen.

Lucky few who actually got the new Apple flagship, iPhone X few days ago, starting at $999, £999 or AU$1,579, might want to get a screen protector, like right now as it will cost a bundle to replace if damaged.

Apple’s service pricing for the phone lists $279, £286 or AU$419 if you “need to replace your screen due to accidental damage or mishandling. Accidental damage isn’t covered by the Apple warranty.”

Additional damage that is not limited to the screen will cost $550. Here’s how Apple’s repair costs break down for the iPhone X compared to other recent phones.

As listed on Apple’s service pricing, the following screen repair prices apply if:

  • You need to replace your screen due to accidental damage or mishandling. Accidental damage isn’t covered by the Apple warranty.
  • Your iPhone screen gets broken while it’s still under warranty and you don’t have AppleCare+ coverage.
  • Your screen stops working and your iPhone isn’t covered by the Apple warranty, consumer law, or AppleCare+.

If your iPhone has additional damage that’s not limited to the screen, Apple gives “Other damage” fees.

For those who elect to get AppleCare+ coverage, which does cover accidental damage to the screen and other parts of the phone, it costs $199 in the US, £199 in the UK and AU$299 in Australia.

To avoid spending more on an highbrow phone, you could just get a screen protector and a robust case. On a phone that expensive, butterfingers might want both.
